  •  Cosmos Annual
Daisy like cosmos blossoms are borne on pliant stems stems 2-6 feet high.  Their height makes them excellent back ground plants; they also group attractively among equally lofty shrubs.  Deceptively fragile looking they bob rather than break under gust of wind, adding dance motions to your garden scenery.

The common cosmos has dingle flowers 2-3 inches across, in shades of magenta, pink, white and lavender, with tufted yellow centers.  Another species puts forth semi double and double flowers in gold and vermilion, some with striped petals.  Sow seeded from early spring through midsummer in full sun, in soil that is only moderately rich.  For earliest bloom, sow in flats during late winter and transplant later.  Seeds come in single colors, or mixed.

Cut freshly opened cosmos blossoms for bouquets; plunge them immediately into cool water to keep flowers and lacy foliage from wilting.
